Canon EOS 20D

I personally use the Canon EOS 20D and it is has been my standard camera now for over three years.  I find it to be a great camera and have not rushed to upgrade to the EOS 30D, 40D or 50D just yet, although I am greatly tempted to get the 50D.

Canon 20D

I upgraded from the Rebel Digital SLR camera, which was a great camera to transistion from a 35mm Canon EOS camera and to learn how digital SLR was different.  The Rebel camera was pretty basic and I felt that I wasn’t getting to do all that I was able to do with my old EOS Elan 7 35mm film camera.  The EOS 20D was the next step up from the Rebel.

The EOS 20D has turned out to be a really good basic digital camera with all the capabilities that one was used to having with the old 35mm cameras.  The 20D is very capable especially when it comes to sport photography with a high burst rate, which at times has allowed me to take 45 shots in sport mode.

I have found that the 20D does a really good job night photography.  I have done a couple of series of shoots in Paris and London at night, with really good results.

Compared to the Rebel line, the Canon EOS 20D is heavier and a bit bulkier, but it built very well. To me, it feels more like a the old film cameras.  The Rebel always felt somewhat plastic to me and could easily break in to pieces if it ever fell to the ground from a just a few feet.

One complaint I have and I think this is a common one for anyone using the oldere Digital SLR camera and that is the problem with being able to properly clean the sensor of dust.  I have tried several techniques, but to with little success.  The new cameras have a feature now that vibrates the sensor and esssentially shakes the dust particles off the censor.  As I travel quite a bit and am always switching lenses, I know that my activities tend to attract dust.  This is one of main reasons that I am eyeing the Canon 50D in hopes of lessening the impact of dust shaddows showing up on my photographs in certain lighting conditions. Other wise, I love my Canon 20D.
