Canon’s rival, Nikon, is set to release their latest amateur professional model camera this fall. The new model, the Nikon D90,l will go almost toe to toe with Canon’s 50D and will be a few hundred dollars cheaper. The estimated retail price for just the body of the Nikon D90 is $999.95, a $400 price difference which will get a lot of peoples attention.

Nikon D90
The Nikon D90 features a 12.3-mega pixel DX-format CMOS imaging sensor, continuous shooting up to 4.5 f/p/s, which is complimented up by an ultra-speedy 0.15ms power-up time, and an all-but-zip shutter lag time of a scant 65-millisecond.
The Nikon D90 will enter the market around mid September, beating Canon to the market by a month.
I am a long time Canon buyer, but I have to admit, Nikon is really giving Canon a run for their money!
