9 November 2010 (Trans-Atlantic Crossing West Bound on AF026) – As with any vacation, there is always the flight home. On this particular series of flights home, I am going from London Heathrow Terminal 4 on an Air France Airbus A321 in to Paris Charles de Gaul Airport and then connect at CDG to an Air France flight direct to Washington – Dulles International Airport (KIAD). It just so work out with the lighting this time of year, that on the transatlantic flight west bound with a 16h00 departure is that you get a prolonged sun set. Another unique thing is that as you see the sun set slowly towards the front of the aircraft, towards the North and back towards the East, you get some interesting lighting effects. Below are the images I captured enroute home to Washington. Not a bad way to bring a vacation to an end and the sunset kind of fits the end of the vacation.
Just as a side note, the weather both at LHR and CDG was cloud, foggy at times with periods of rain. Winds really kicked up and made for interesting crosswind takeoffs out of both airports.
